FarmWise ("we", "us" or "our") provides agricultural learning courses, certificates, rewards and an AI farming assistant for farmers across Nigeria. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using FarmWise, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
We collect the following kinds of information:
- Account information: your name, username, phone number, email address and profile photo when you sign up or update your profile.
- Farm profile: your state, local government area, type of farmer and the learning categories you are interested in.
- Learning activity: the courses you open, lessons and quizzes you complete, exam results, certificates, points, badges, streaks and leaderboard ranking.
- Payment information: which plan you subscribed to, its status and its dates. Card and bank details are entered on our payment provider's checkout page and are not stored by FarmWise.
- Conversations with Baba Farmer, our AI assistant: the questions you ask and the answers you receive, so that your chat history is available to you.
- Device and usage data: browser type, device information, pages visited and approximate location derived from your IP address, collected automatically.
2. How we use your information
- To create and secure your account, including verifying your phone number with a one-time password.
- To deliver courses, track your progress and issue certificates.
- To run rewards, leaderboards, streaks and weekly prizes.
- To process subscriptions and activate your plan, including plans activated by SMS.
- To send service messages such as one-time passwords, subscription notices, learning reminders and weather or seasonal alerts you have opted into.
- To personalise course recommendations and improve the platform.
- To prevent fraud and abuse and to comply with legal obligations.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these situations:
- Service providers who help us run FarmWise, such as payment processors, SMS and messaging providers, hosting and analytics providers. They may use your information only to provide their service to us.
- Leaderboards and rewards: your display name, avatar, points and ranking may be visible to other learners.
- Certificates: if you share or publish a certificate, the information on it (such as your name and course) can be viewed and verified by others.
- Legal reasons: where required by law, court order or a request from a competent authority, or to protect the rights, safety and property of FarmWise, our users or the public.
- Business transfers: if FarmWise is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred, and we will tell you if your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. AI assistant
Questions you send to Baba Farmer are processed by AI technology to generate answers. Please do not include sensitive personal information such as passwords or bank details in your questions. Answers are general guidance and are not a substitute for advice from a qualified agronomist, veterinarian or other professional.
5. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, meet legal, tax and accounting requirements, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account we will delete or anonymise your personal information, except where we are required to keep it.
6. Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and other applicable laws, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete information (you can edit most details on your profile and settings pages);
- request deletion of your information;
- object to or restrict certain processing, including marketing messages;
- withdraw consent you previously gave; and
- lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your login details confidential.
8. Children
FarmWise is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Third-party links
FarmWise may link to websites and services that we do not operate, including our payment provider's checkout page. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices and encourage you to read their policies.

11. Changes to this policy
